There are 79 Sea Cadet Units and 19 Royal Marines Cadet Detachments in the South West Area. The Area spreads from the tip of Cornwall through the South West peninsula, taking in Somerset and Dorset and through the Severn Valley to the West Midlands. Units in Mid and South Wales also belong to the South West Area.
Sea Cadet Units are grouped into Districts, each with a Sea Cadet Corps Lieutenant Commander (RNR) as its District Officer and another senior Sea Cadet Officer as Assistant District Officer. There are nine Districts altogether; Cornwall, Devon, Somerset & Dorset, Avon, Severn, Mercia, Warwickshire, South Wales and West Wales.
Royal Marines Cadet Detachments are grouped into Troops and are commanded by a Troop Commander, there are approximately seven Detachments to a Troop and are named
