Welcome to South West Area

There are 79 Sea Cadet Units and 19 Marine Cadet Detachments in the South West Area. The Area spreads from the tip of Cornwall through the South West peninsula, taking in Somerset and Dorset and through the Severn Valley to the West Midlands. Units in Mid and South Wales also belong to the South West Area.

Sea Cadet Units are grouped into Districts, each with a Sea Cadet Corps Lieutenant Commander (RNR) as its District Officer and another senior Sea Cadet Officer as Assistant District Officer. There are nine Districts altogether; Cornwall, Devon, Somerset & Dorset, Avon, Severn, Mercia, Warwickshire, South Wales and West Wales.

Marine Cadet Detachments are grouped into Troops and are commanded by a Troop Commander, there are approximately six Detachments to a Troop and are named 1, 2 and 3 Troop and form Alpha Company (South West Area) Marine Cadets. The management team and permanent staff for South West Area are based at the Royal Naval Reserve Unit in Bristol, HMS FLYING FOX.
